Well yesterday was the 9th anniversary of my 29th birthday. We celebrated with the kids on Sunday by eating out together - and in the process reminded ourselves why we never take the kids to a restaurant that doesn't have a play area. Then yesterday Phil took me out. He planned this himself, bought the tickets, and got a babysitter. For someone who considered himself "logistically challenged," he did good! It was a concert at Riverbend featuring 5 bands from the 1980's; Naked Eyes, Flock of Seagulls, ABC, Belinda Carlisle and Human League. I went to a couple rock concerts when I was a teenager, but this was different than those concerts.
Concerts when I was a teen: audience standing, dancing and screaming. Concerts now: audience dancing and cheering on the biggest songs, but sitting down otherwise.
Concerts then: audience full of teenagers. Concerts now: audience full of people my age, noticeably less energetic than most teenagers.
Concerts then: Amy totally focused on the music, even songs she doesn't know. Concerts now: Amy getting sidetracked during songs she doesn't recognize and making up a mental list of things to do tomorrow. Good grief! I had a lot of fun though. What a nice birthday surprise!

I'm glad Phil was able to surprise you. We were on tap for babysitting and I had to keep quiet about that. But I was glad he was able to find someone who wasn't so handicapped to sit with the children. I'm glad you had a good time. And wait until you start attending the opera when your children are older, and notice that the crowd is all old folks -- just like you!
Happy Birthday To You,
Happy Birthday To You...
